Mix revision rounds: how we work

Mixes improve with focused notes, not twenty scattered messages. Here is how we handle revisions on Mixing at our Amsterdam East studio.

What counts as a revision round

At Olivevanta a mix balances level, depth, and dynamics for singles, EPs, and albums. A revision round is one organised batch of feedback on that mix: for example «vocals +1 dB in chorus», «less bass bloom near 80 Hz», «tighter drums in verse 2». It is not a new recording session or surprise stems outside the agreed project.

Our mix prices include 2 revision rounds, such as €192 per track or €695 for an EP up to six songs. Other tiers are on mixing.

Before we start: stems and references

Send labelled WAV stems (24-bit where possible), tempo or grid notes, and a short reference list: at most two tracks showing the clarity or punch you want — not «clone this hit». State what you do not want: excessive reverb, harsh compression.

We share an upload link after contact. Files stay 18 months. Without a clear folder map we lose time searching instead of listening to your mix. Name drums, bass, vocals, and effects buses consistently so we can import quickly.

First mix: listen in more than one place

We deliver a first mix with headroom for mastering. Do not judge only on a phone speaker: use headphones, a car, a kitchen radio. In the Netherlands much listening happens on Bluetooth boxes; check that vocals stay intelligible.

Write timestamps (minute:second) and the element: «vocal too dry 1:42», «guitars too wide 0:55». One email or shared doc per round works best. For loudness after the mix, see streaming loudness.

Writing useful feedback

Separate taste from problems. «More air» is taste; «hi-hat vanishes on a small speaker» is translation. Prioritise what must change before the next version versus what can wait for mastering.

Avoid conflicting notes without context. If two band members listen, pick one voice for the project. That matches our terms and conditions.

Second round and sign-off

Round two addresses open items from round one: automation tweaks, EQ trims, level rides. Large arrangement changes (recording new backing vocals) sit outside revision and need a separate quote, possibly with vocal sessions in our booth.

After round two we deliver the approved mix for mastering or release. Extra rounds are available at an hourly rate quoted upfront. B2B payment terms: terms (21 days).

Turnaround and scheduling

We reply to mix requests within 2 business days. A single track usually takes a few working days once stems are complete; album timelines are agreed per song. Say if you target Spotify NL or vinyl — that shapes how tight we set dynamics before mastering.

Evening studio time is available by appointment; opening hours are Monday–Friday 09:30–21:30, Saturday 10:00–17:00. Closed Sunday; evening sessions by appointment.. 25% deposit on confirmation; cancel free up to 5 days ahead.

Summary

  • 2 revision rounds included on standard mixes.
  • Timestamped feedback, one project contact.
  • No new recording inside revision; book separately.
  • Mix from €192; EP/album bundles on mixing.
  • Archive 18 months; then see privacy.
